Fata Morgana

A meticulously created sculpture, this ship and ocean is formed from an optical illusion made by thousands of bead and other foreign objects. Approximately 1,600 cables are suspended in order to form this illusion. The title of the piece, "Fata Morgana", fittingly describes the mirage-like quality of this work.

The creators of this piece are Ralph Helmick and Stuart Shechter who collaborated in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in order to create this sculpture. The materials used in the process were cast metals and stainless cables.

  1. surprisingly! It’s like you understand my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some images to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is wonderful blog. A good read. I’ll certainly be back.
